Season Summary[]

Overview[]

WHERE'S THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S A WAR — Off the first season's shocking finale and fatal fire, the resilient Carringtons will rise from the ashes to redefine themselves after a major personal loss, as well as the sale of their family's company. Determined to prove herself the savior of their empire, the cunning and charismatic Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies) will attempt to rebrand her family's dynasty, but a twenty-five year old in charge of liquid billions just might turn out to be a disastrous combination. Almost as disastrous as Fallon's romances... She finds herself falling in love with a man whose family is wealthier and crazier than her own and of whom Blake (Grant Show) does not approve. Nor does Alexis (Nicollette Sheridan), who will find new ways to meddle in her daughter's life as only a mother can. Meanwhile, the rivalry between the Colbys and Carringtons heats up, and the families embark on Atlanta's most outrageous pissing contest, causing new Colbys to come out of the woodwork, namely Blake's half-sister, the iconic Dominique Deveraux, and the arrival of Anders' (Alan Dale) daughter threatens to shake things up when she unpacks her trunk-load of secrets about the Carrington family. Despite all of these rocky relationships, and even more surprise guests slated to rear their heads in Season Two, the Carringtons will once again prove that blood is thicker than oil, and that there's nothing like the diamond-encrusted ties that bind.

    • In order to look like Alexis, a ife cast was done for Liz, in which they made a mold of her face . The prosthetics they ended up going with were incredibly thin and very impressive; it was done by Blue Whale Studios, run by Matthew Silva and Jonah Levy. It took five hours to get into them and about 45 minutes to get out.
  • On May 24, 2019 Paula Sabbage, one of the head writers for the show revealed that the Dynasty writers are saving Steven's political career for a potential 4th season arc for this particular Carrington. [78]
    • On this same day, Sallie Patrick revealed that she'd be stepping down as show runner for the series, with the 44th episode being her last. [79]
  • On June 19, 2019 it was announced that Adam Huber had been nominated for Choice Drama TV Actor for the 2019 Teen Choice Awards. [80] [81]
  • This is the only season to feature Nicollette Sheridan (Alexis Carrington) and Ana Brenda Contreras (Cristal Jennings) and the last season to feature James Mackay (Steven Carrington) as series regulars.

Reception[]

On May 15, 2019, Dynasty ranked #5 on the list of most-watched series on Netflix in the UK, and #8 on the overall list of shows and films.[82] The series ranked #6 the following week.[83][84]

In a review of the first nine episodes, Hidden Remote critic Georgia Makitalo gave the second season a letter grade of a B, noting that it's "more for the bigger story that I believe the writers are setting up for viewers," and that the grade could drop to a D if the storylines do not improve soon. Praise was given to the stunning and campy scenes that "make the show worth watching," such as The Great Gatsby inspired party and the Wizard of Oz dream sequence. Criticism was geared toward the lack of direction since selling Carrington Atlantic, noting that "Fallon needs something to do," as well as the Colbys' lack of screentime.

Makitalo was also disappointed in Alexis' development in the second season, stating:

Elizabeth Gillies is the clear star of the reboot, although it appears that the producers believe it is Nicollette Sheridan. While the former Desperate Housewives star brings a lot of gravitas and camp to the CW show, the writers have failed her as well. Alexis clearly has a back story that they have failed to uncover. Thus, Alexis is hardly sympathetic, and they are wasting Sheridan's exceptional talents.[85]
