Moldavia is a fictional nation in The CW's Dynasty. It exists under a monarchy ruled by a King.
The region is first mentioned when Blake Carrington and Laura Van Kirk discuss their plan to break up Fallon and Liam. Laura needs them broken up so her deal with the Moldavian King to open up their oil markets can go through. She knows Liam will inherit a large block of shares to the family company that will give him enough of a voice to block the deal. If Liam doesn’t get married he won’t receive the shares and Laura’s deals can pass through. Later, Laura announces that she closed her deal with Moldavia early so she can rush the deal with Blake and secure him Carrington Atlantic as promised.[1]
Throughout Dynasty[]
Kidnapping[]
When Blake's deal with Moldavia goes awry, he is forced to leave the state and fly to Moldavia. Joseph Anders travels with him. That night at the airport, while trying to leave Moldavia, Blake and Anders experienced difficulty with the government. They were kidnapped by the King. The pilot managed to escape and inform the Carrington family of the incident.[2]
In a Moldavian dungeon, a worse-for-wear Anders tries to open the metal door locking him and Blake inside. Blake comments that the guards didn’t unlock it in the last five minutes. Anders suggests that just speak with the King but Blake knows that the King is the reason they were kidnapped. Laura Van Kirk screwed Blake over when she sold him back CA. A guard enters to tell them to be quiet, as the King can hear them from his quarters. Anders requests to speak with the King but the guard informs them that the King is aware of their situation. Blake attempts to pressure the guard into releasing them but fails. Anders asks Blake if he’s out of his freaking mind because he doesn’t seem to grasp the gravity of the situation. Blake is aware they were kidnapped five-hours ago, which means the pilot is already on his way home and has notified the family.
At the Carrington Mansion, Cristal, Liam, and Adam plot a way to save Blake and Anders. Adam recommends that Cristal stay quiet for now, as they can’t risk the story being leaked to the press. Adam wants to go but she thinks it’s just another way for him to get on Blake’s good graces. Liam explains that his family has done business in Moldavia so he’s been there and has already reached out to a few of his mother’s contacts for help. He also was able to get the blueprints for the palace where the political prisoners are taken. Cristal wants to send the blueprints to an actual international rescue group. Adam tells her that the UN advises all international rescue programs not to go to Moldavia - even private security companies won’t go there. Cristal wonders what makes Adam so sure he can do it, to which he explains he’s just going to unkidnap a few innocent people and won’t be fighting anyone. In the meantime, VKI has approved the use of a private jet to take the duo to Moldavia.
In the Moldavian dungeon, Blake apologizes to Anders for dragging him into another bad situation. Anders assures him he volunteered to go and they are in this together. Blake asks Anders where if he could be anywhere in the world right now - aside from the Manor. Blake wants to go to the moon. Anders doesn’t want to say but Blake pressures him. Anders admits he always wanted to open a beachfront restaurant in New Zealand, which prompts Blake to scoff at the idea. The guard enters the dungeon to tell Blake the King has a proposition. The captains of the tankers won’t negotiate with the Moldavian government without the okay from Blake. The tankers aren’t leaving Moldavian waters, so the King wants Blake to call the captains and order them to turn around and return the oil. If Blake complies they will let both of them go. The guard asks if they have a deal, and after a moment passes, Blake spits in the guard’s face. The guard punches Blake which knocks him out. The guard approaches Anders and tells him that the King’s offer only lasts until midnight.
Blake wakes up and Anders informs him of the King’s time limit on his offer. Anders then tells Blake that when a dictator offers a way out he should take it, but Blake thinks the moment he signs over that oil is the moment they die. As long as they control the tankers they’re fine, as the King isn’t going to risk an international incident by shooting at the tankers. Which is why they aren’t making a deal. In the VKI airplane, Liam goes over the plan with Adam. As long as Liam’s contact meets them at the palace they can sneak in, find Anders and Blake, and get out before anyone notices. Adam assures Liam that they have to at least try to save Blake. From the front of the plane, Sam emerges revealing that he stowed-away on the plane.
Liam and Adam's plan fails and they join Blake and Anders in the dungeon. Sam saves them while on a drug-induced trip and they escape.[3]
Aftermath of the Kidnapping[]
Back home, Anders tells Blake and Adam that someone leaked to the press that Blake stole oil from Moldavia, and now, the department of energy has launched an investigation into misconduct. Blake thinks it’s insane as it isn’t his fault Laura Van Kirk set him up. Adam agrees that just because the King decided to nationalize oil doesn’t mean they can take what CA has already paid for. Until the energy department agrees with the Carrington’s, all CA assets have been frozen.
Blake wants his contact, Olivia Walker, to drop the investigation into CA but she can’t, as this is a high-profile case for them. During the meeting, a smoke canister breaks through the window. He pulls her to safety and sees that the label has “Moldavia” written on it. Olivia thinks Blake has Moldavian terrorists after him and she can’t risk putting her life, career, or family in danger. They have to wait until things cool down then she will help him.
The refinery holding the Moldavian oil explodes and CA lost $500 million dollars. Adam tells Blake that the Moldavian oil was tainted and caused an explosion at the refinery. There were no casualties but it will be a nightmare financially and PR-wise. The press is going to be out for blood. Unbeknownst to Blake, Adam bribed the captain to add a toxin to the oil. Blake believes that the Moldavians are out to get him.[4]

Trivia[]
- Moldavia was a key location and plot point during the fifth and sixth seasons of the original Dynasty series.
- Oil is nationalized in Moldavia.
- In a TVLine interview concluding the third season's premature finale, showrunner Josh Reims said of Moldavia's future in the series: "They're definitely not over. I can't say whether there will be a Moldavian massacre or not, but the Moldavians will definitely be returning. That episode was so ridiculous and fun to do, and I'd love to explore the royalty of Moldavia. We don't want to do exactly what they did on the original, but whatever our version of the Moldavian Massacre is (which won't be a massacre), we're going to try and build up to that.[6]
- This plan was evidently scrapped, as the lore surrounding Moldavia was never explored during the final two seasons.
