Apparently, my message didn't send the first time but I am a moderator over at the Charmed Wiki and I was hoping that these two Wikis can become affiliates. It seems appropriate for the CW reboots to all be affiliated with another. Let me know what the staff thinks and thank you in advance!
I just looked at the logs and saw who did it. I'm sorry about that. You guys shouldn't have been demoted without at least a conversation. There have been some issues on the wiki concerning that user for a bit now.
I've just taken a few minutes to scroll through the Charmed Wiki and saw the disaster of a situation you're having with that admin. I'm so sorry. I hope you're able to resolve it. I've had to deal with my share of unbearably unfair admins and bureaucrats in the past, especially with people who think they own the wiki and are above everyone else. Ugh.
If you need any help with the situation, don't hesitate to ask. I've dealt with this sort of thing so many times that I know the process of how to get them demoted by heart lol...
Thank you for that but I'm good now. Daniel has been great and has been really fair throughout this entire process. I let him know about you and Fearless Diva and he restored your admin rights if you guys don't know yet.
Hello and afternoon.
Allow me to introduce myself.
I am Fashionable101; you can call me J.D. and I'm one of the admins for the Criminal Minds Wikia. I work with Echo Spy aka Jay as he is the head admin for the CM Wikia site.
If you could, can you give him a message for me, please?
I noticed you picked out the "Coming Soon" picture for upcoming episodes, so I figured I would bring this up with you. I suggest changing it to File:Dynasty Season 2.jpg so that it's updated to the current season. Just a thought. :)
Thank you and the other admins again for being patient about the migration process! We are cleaning a few final pages. Because the Community Builder layout doesn't have the same tools as mediawiki does, you may have to adjust the content of some special pages to fit your community needs. Here is an example page: https://dynastytv-new.wikia.com/wiki/4203996/dynasty-community-administrators
I twisted some words and linked the message wall to Community Central. Another suggestion is you can use Discussions for conversation purpose too. We will develop more tools by the end of this year, like admin rights, etc.
I'm so sorry about the mis-communications! I talked to the admin Fearless Diva on Sep 21 and I thought she was talking to the rest crews on board. We have been working on this migration since then and plan to launch it tomorrow. Would you please confirm with the fellow admins as soon as possible so I can communication with my team too? Truly appreciated!
Community Builder will bring a new editing experience to users and we have the full support provided to you and the community. Although the tool is still in an early age, we would like to work together with you to develop this tool and make it fit your needs. It will be much easier for users to edit and contribute content than Mediawiki, and our goal is to bring you the easiest features and bring this community more users. It would be an honor to have you as part of this great experience!
I've discussed it with my admins and apparently I was MIA when it was brought up in the group chat, so it's really my bad. However, I'd like to share some of my concerns about the new community builder, and also ask a few questions to see if they can be addressed before we move forward with the new changes.
Feedback: There is no option for source code editing. While I understand that new users who come will find it easier to edit in the new, very visual and inuitive way, as a legacy Wikia user, I still find that editing in source mode is the only way I can do any work without ripping my hair out. So, I get that people have different preferences, but the option to switch would be nice.
There doesn't seem to be any background/hero banner in the dynastytv-new mockup. Is this supposed to be how it is or is there an option to change it? Because if there's no ooption, it looks kind of bland honestly. I put a lot of work as well as my fellow admins into making the wiki have the "feeling" of the Dynasty TV show, and that includes the vibrant images, colors of the expensive champagne, and the soapy privledged dynasties vibe to the entire site.
There's also no Wiki-wordmark logo which really adds that extra something to our wiki. Is that possible to add on Community Builder?
When I click "view profile" on dynastytv-new, I get sent to the Fandom Community Central. Why are there no user profiles within the actual wiki itself? Is this something that can be modified by us admins?
I don't really like how the Discussions feature takes priority over the content in the new design, showing up on the front page before any of the actual work. In our wiki, we spent a lot of time making the home page glisten and also provide links to the main parts of the wiki as well as getting started, so it really feels like the "page one" or "starting point" of the Dynasty Wiki experience. Is there any way to change the home page or customize it with coding/styles/images etc?
Thank you for the quick response! I really appreciated these questions and feedback, and I will also bring them to our product team for further discussions.
The Community Builder is still in its early age of development and it's not a perfect tool, but we want to work together with you to achieve that goal and provide the communities a simple editing experience.
Here are a few things I want to mention to address your concerns:
Community Builder is not built on Mediawiki but a fully developed new layout created by our own team. It's not an editor we want to replace the visual editor along with the classic editor; it is an entirely new tool and layout we want to provide to our users. Although Mediawiki is a legacy, we want to keep innovating products to guide the future of user's editing experience. Our data shows that a high percentage of users don't know how to edit content with wikitext because it's too complex, and this stops them from contributing the content at the first place, which adds less contributors to the community as well. One of the goals to develop this new product is to add more contributors and let everyone add or edit information on mobile, which is provided by Mediawiki layout. We want to give our users a clean layout with simple editing experience. Besides, the algorithm behind the tool is to make your community do the work for you through the powerful structured data system instead of working each single tasks by yourself. This is something Mediawiki cannot provide either.
Community Builder doesn't have a theme customization for now but this is highly requested by many users and considered by us for the next development, including wordmark, background image, text colors, etc. We are planning to add some basic theming in Q4 and will give admins more powerful tools starting from there to customize the themes in the future. This has been already put in our product roadmap.
You don't see a profile page for now along with the admin right tools. But that is being planned for Q4 and we want the admins to have some management tools to start with, such as blocking users, etc. Admin can directly use the dashboard to manage the community in the future. If you have any suggestion, we would love to hear more.
The mainpage you are seeing now is not the final presentation. It's just a baby step. So definitely there will be a lot of adjustments on the mainpage in the future, including how to present Discussions or what to show up on the mainpage. We would love to hear what elements you would like to see on the mainpage based on your priorities as an admin.
Again, this product is still in an early age and we are speeding up the development process. Without your continual feedback and using experience, it is a little hard for us to evaluate what features you would like to see for the next step on Community Builder and how to fit your needs. That's being said, we would really be happy to have you as part of this experience! The migration will help us monitor users' editing behaviors on the Community Builder and your and other admins' continual feedback will directly guide us to work on a product that your community really wants.
Thank you, and please let me know what other questions you have!
Upon reviewing it with the admin team, we've come to the agreement that while we're interested in the new Community Builder, testing out, and giving feedback, we'd prefer ideally to wait until the Q4 launch before implementing it on Dynasty Wiki: the reason being that the show is returning for a new season in just under 24 hours, and we believe it will bring a heavy stream of traffic and contributors to us. However, not having control over the design (wordmark, colors, background) and our customizable user profiles yet makes me and my fellow admins a bit nervous.
It seems that you've addressed most of my concerns with the Q4 launch, so like I said, we'd be on board & open to the idea of the Community Builder once that launch becomes available for us.
I hope you find this to be a satisfactory resolution.
Thank you again for your feedback! I have brought up your suggestions to our product team and we will highly consider these key points moving forward. Although our team has been spending a lot of time on the migration for a few weeks, we decide we are not going to continue the launch and we respect your decision. We will keep improving the Community Builder in Q4 to meet your needs and come back to check with you again when the next version is ready.
Does that sound good to you? We are always open to listen to your ideas and suggestions about the Community Builder, so please do not hesitate to let us know any time! Please keep in touch!
May I suggest to create a page for "Minor Characters" instead of full of pages for characters that appeared once (or twice) like Vera, Chava, Tim Myers and many more who only have one or two sentences in their biography...
Something like :
"See below for a list of minor characters that appeared in one or two episodes :
Characters are listed in the order of their appearance in the series."
[Character] appeared in the episode [number/title]. She was portrayed by [name].
[mini-bio] (one or two lines as in their actual page).
I know that I'm the one who created the major part of all those pages and I would like to apologize because it's now clear that they are useless for a particular page.
If some characters will reappear with a more important role in season two, we could easily re-create an individual page...
I agree we should have a page like that, but for Episodic Characters instead (aka just 1-2 episodes). For characters with 3+ appearances, I think they warrant their own page, and also every article helps boost our page count which is really important in the long run for Wikia promotion and community spotlights!
I called it Minor characters but I mean : Episodic Characters (look what I said : charcaters that appeared once or twice)...
I don't know how Wikia promotion works... But I suggest this list page to DELETE all the pages for characters that appeared in one or two episodes... and the number of pages will be under 100... Is it still right for you?
Vera, Evie Culhane (not sure because she is family of a main character), Robby Reid, Diana Davis, Kylie, Pepper Channing, Phil, Chava, Bobbi Johnson (same as Evie not sure), Tim Myers, Senator Daniels, Bob Channing, Gerry Dinard, Mrs Gunnerson and Granny (same as Evie and Bobbi not sure)...
Tbh, I think if the character has very little significance in the storyline, it's okay to remove.
But otherwise, they should have an article. Robby Reid was mentioned more than a few times, and Senator Daniels had his own one-episode arc, so they're still relatively important.
But if the article has literally no significance to the storyline and the character is irrelevant - then it's ok to delete. On our Famous in Love Wikia, we basically classified episodic characters as the flight attendant who appeared for 13 seconds, or the hair stylist with a fun personality who nobody remembered later or saw again. But ultimately, if the character is a big part of an episode's arc or storyline, they should still have an article.
OK... So, if we look closer all those episodic characters had significance in the storyline... Gerry Dinard appeared in the hospital with Ted and Steven manipulated him to save Sam. Tim Myers also had his importance in Morell Corp business... Chava and Vera did the transition between the first plot (Matthew/Claudia) and the second (Iris/Alejandro)... Steven realized that Stansfield is corrupted with Phil's indirect help... The Channings are relatively important in the recurring plot of Cristal/Fallon rivalry... etc etc...
I didn't see it like that but now I see it with your eyes...
Maybe it's not so important if there's only one or two lines in their bios ! :)
Spanish is my native tongue, but I moved to the US when I was 8, so my achilles' heel was the accents when writing in the language. Even though Im technically only fluent in Spanish and English... When it comes to Italian and Portugese... they are close enough to spanish I can read and understand someone speaking it quite well. French is the trickier one. :P
Tbh yeah! Since the show mainly revolves around them as one big weirdly connected family, go for it! But I think it should still stay as Carrington Family Tree in case we get some more background of other families ie Liam.
I'm an administrator over at the Devious Maids wiki, and I was wondering if you would like to affiliate with us. Given that Grant Show and Briana Brown play two major characters on Dynasty, we figured it would be appropriate as each had main roles in Devious Maids. That, and the goal is to also promote the new projects that the cast are now partaking in. Anyways, just get back to me at whatever time is most convenient.
Well, as an admin on here, I vote yes! I used to be a fan of Devious Maids but stopped watching just before the Season 1 finale :( but I heard about the petty Marisol cliffhanger for the series finale! Lifetime is petty af for canceling the show!
But now it's up to Princess and Fearless Divas for the final say!
The Marisol cliffhanger was ridiculous! The writers have even apologized since then about ending the show that way because they were just listening to the Lifetime execs who told them to end the season with on something big, hoping to get renewed. Amazing show, even the cliffhanger, just it deserved an actual resolution. :/
Anyways, small rant aside, thanks for your support on the affiliation! Look forward to hearing back from the other two administrators. :)
Hi Princess, I am looking at the corrections you did after me on the Ted Dinard page I created...
When I create a new character page (ok, I agree, it's just my third after Monica and Iris lol), I always look for other page to be sure I don't make mistakes. And in the Ted's case, I look at "Robby Reid" because he's a minor character with ex-romance... and I don't understand the difference between Ted who is Steven's ex-boyfriend and Robby who is Fallon's ex-boyfriend. In each case, they only talk about their relationship without seeing them together in flashbacks (like Cristal and Matthew). Can you explain please?
I have nothing to say about that, but I don't understand the correction you did in the infobox for Ted :
- I took Robby Reid for example to create infobox. And it is mentionned that he is Fallon Carrington's ex-boyfriend.
- I did exactly the same for the infobox of Ted and mentionned that he is Steven's ex-boyfriend. But you corrected after me saying that it is not in the series. But in each case, the past relationship is just mentionned by Robby or Ted and didn't appear on screen.
Okay, so I scoured the realms of the Internet and tried to find unbiased, unopinionated episode recaps, and I've founded a good source - tvbuzzer.com. The plot summaries are relatively short but it's nice and gets star tight to the point. However, the site doesn't list a good plot summary for Ep #2.
