WHEN GREED WAS GOOD — In a throwback to the '80s, when "greed was good,” the Carringtons don their best costumes for their Charity Gala; Fallon fights her father Blake for the right to use the family name in her new business venture; and when Cristal learns her sister is in danger, she's forced to choose between her old family and her new one.

Plot Summary[]

SPOILERS AHEAD

Implicated in Matthew's death, Steven clashes with Blake, who he suspects may have been involved. When Blake blocks Fallon's use of the Carrington name for her new business venture, she looks for leverage over him. Sam's mother Iris is in trouble, but Anders has made it impossible for Cristal to send her money. Cristal remembers her past as Celia Machado, when the sisters stole a fortune, but only Cristal escaped Venezuela. Sam secretly arranges the theft of Cristal's engagement ring and other valuables during a charity gala to raise the money, but Matthew's phone and its incriminating contents, which Blake had acquired illegally, are stolen as well.[2]

While Steven is in the midst of trying to prove his innocence against murder charges, Fallon and Blake are wrapped up in their own legal battle and don't appear to be sincerely concerned for Steven in the slightest.

Sure, Blake bailed Steven out, but he was also quick to accuse his only son of murder. Is there something we don't know about Steven? So far he appears to be the only Carrington with some scruples. After talking back to his dad, Blake tells him he is on his own. He can figure out how to get out of the murder charges. After all, Blake needs to save up his energy going after Fallon. In an attempt to shut down her new company Carrington Windbriar, Blake sends his daughter a cease and desist letter demanding she doesn't use his last name on any of her business ventures. And just in time, as Fallon has successfully poached two of Blake's longtime clients.

We finally get a glimpse at Cristal's past. As one would guess, it involves stealing piles of cash from what could only be some powerful people. It appears she is still on the run with her sister bearing the brunt of her troubled past back in Venezuela. According to Sammy Jo, his mother is in some serious trouble and needs to relocate and it's up to Cristal to figure it out. Cristal can't seem to get the money out of her shared account with Blake without him finding out.

While looking for an alibi, Steven talks to Michael who helps him out by letting him know that his dad has Matthew's cell phone. He had it stolen from evidence. The strange part, why didn't Michael tell Fallon this bit of news? It seems Michael is keeping his guard up now that Fallon has been spending more time with Jeff on their new company. Could Fallon be losing her inside source?

It's the annual Carrington Charity Gala and its all about the 80s and some serious back stabbing! Blake and Jeff have a bidding war over a diamond necklace that Cristal is wearing as part of an auction. Blake purposely baits Jeff, getting him to pay $10k. The two have words right after near the food table. Blake wants Jeff to stay away from Fallon and from his business. Blake made him the man he is with charity funds since Jeff came from nothing. The two become heated with fists swinging.

Meanwhile, Cristal can't help but run her fingers over the diamond necklace that could help her sister. A solution comes from an unexpected place when Blake enters his bedroom after his fight with Jeff. A masked man is in there rifling through his things. The man and Blake fight. Steven cuts in and defends his father, sending the masked man running. Just when it looks like the only thing missing is Cristal's engagement ring, Anders and Blake discover that some Rolexes and Matthew's phone, with a video of Cristal, is also gone.

It's easy to think that Cristal is behind this until Sammy Jo confides in her that he took care of his mom's situation![3]

Quotes[]

Fallon: Fine, let her have it. Everyone here knows I was born into diamonds. The only way you could get any was by spreading your legs.
Cristal: If only diamonds could buy you class.
Fallon: (death stare)

Anders: Tempting, isn't it?
Cristal: Excuse me?
Anders: I've been watching you with that necklace all evening. Grasping it like Gollum. You look guilty for someone who hasn't stolen anything.
Cristal: Guilt is an emotion I don't suffer from. Guilt is for insecure people.
Anders: Well, what about desperation? That's what I saw when you realized that your accounts have been cut off.
Cristal: Look Anders, whatever you know about my past, you don't know me now. I learned that solving one problem by creating another gets you nowhere.
Anders: It got you here though, didn't it?
(Cristal walks over to Jeff Colby)
Cristal: I believe this belongs to you.
(Cristal takes the necklace off and walks away)

Fallon: He wanted a war, let's make sure he's the casualty.
