Season 5 of The CW's American soap opera series Dynasty was renewed on February 3, 2021.^[1]

On May 25, 2021, it was revealed that this season was being held to premiere during midseason for the CW's 2021-2022 TV Schedule.^[2]. However on November 5, 2021, It was officially announced that Dynasty S5 would premiere on December 20, 2021.^[3] Weekly episodes began airing on March 11, 2022.

On May 12, 2022, the show was cancelled at The CW, making this season its final season.^[4] The series finale aired on September 16, 2022, and the series was released on Netflix on September 24, 2022. The DVD boxset was released on January 24, 2023.

It's a Christmas wish come true! Season's Greetings from Season Five of DYNASTY, back to give you the best present of all: more Carrington drama. After Eva, Fallon's (Elizabeth Gillies) scorned and lovesick assistant, shot her, Fallon lay bleeding out on the campaign gala floor with her marriage to Liam (Adam Huber) also circling the drain. Will she survive the internal damage? Will her marriage survive the external damage? It's anyone's guess...

Also racing for his life - electorally speaking - Blake (Grant Show) steadily built a lead in the Georgia Senate race, thanks to Cristal (Daniella Alonso) employing a little Carrington manipulation of her own. This season, the marriage starts off in rough waters, but soon hits smooth sailing as Cristal finds herself at the helm of a new position of power. With Blake's airline soaring, it may be time for Blake and Cristal to consummate their marriage by joining together as one... business. The problem is, in this world, amassing more power just makes you more of a target for the people waiting to take you down.

Now adorned in her finest prison orange, Alexis (Elaine Hendrix) finds herself behind bars for a crime she didn't commit. While one child – Adam (Sam Underwood) – clearly was more involved than he's letting on, another child – Amanda (Eliza Bennett) – does her best to exonerate her mother. A game of cat and mouse ensues as Amanda looks to settle some scores with Adam, leading to a season-long rivalry. As Adam builds up his new company this year, Amanda will do whatever she can to make him suffer.

Meanwhile, while Jeff (Sam Adegoke) is no longer going into outer space, he's still going into dangerous places. He soon finds himself in the midst of a dangerous war that he’s not sure he can win. At the same time, Dominique (Michael Michele) looks to expand her reach in the fashion industry, giving Kirby (Maddison Brown) another chance to return to a career that almost destroyed her. Culhane (Robert C. Riley) sets out to find an everlasting love and Sam (Rafael de la Fuente) opens his heart only to uncover a devastating family secret.

This season is all about legacy and what it means to leave something worthwhile behind. As we head towards our 100th episode, there will be no shortage of caviar and champagne, hair-pulling and pageantry, and maybe even a few new faces with old secrets ready to solidify their own dynasty.

IS ALL AS IT SEEMS? – Tension remains between Blake and Cristal as they disagree on business matters and Blake calls in a favor to solve the problem. Sam finds out some compromising information about the hotel and confides in Culhane and the two come up with a plan to make the problem go away. Adam makes matters worse for his family situation. With Kirby and Amanda still on shaky ground, Kirby goes to extreme measures to hopefully appease Amanda, and may have found a new majordomo for the Manor in the process.

TO THE FUTURE - A new majordomo begins working at the Manor and piques the interest of the Carringtons. Blake and Cristal disagree on how to handle recent events at PPA, causing more strain between the two. The unlikely duo of Blake and Alexis go on a search and rescue mission. Fallon and Liam run through a practice labor and delivery. Jeff is put in a precarious position, one that could potentially change his future radically. Fallon is challenged by the FSN board and Dominique offers to help. Sam does not accept Culhane's business choices and tries to sabotage Culhane's plan. Amanda is presented an amazing opportunity which leaves Kirby questioning the future. Adam can't seem to scheme his way out of his new mess.

On September 10, 2021, Michael Michele went live on her official Instagram account and revealed the shootings for the fifth season commences in October though the official date is not set up yet.
- On October 10, 2021, Michael Michele went live on her official Instagram account and revealed that the shooting for the fifth season commences on October 20, 2021.
- The shooting date, however, changed to October 21, 2021 for unknown reasons.
As per Michael Michele's and Rafael de la Fuente's Instagram stories the script for the second episode was given to them on November 2, 2021.
- Michele revealed the names of the writer and director on her story whereas de la Fuente revealed the name on his.
Michael Michele also revealed that shooting for the second episode commences on November 3, 2021.
On November 3, 2021, it was revealed that the first two episodes of the season would air on December 20, 2021. The season made midseason return on March 11, 2022.^[3]
On December 8, 2021, Andi Behring revealed that she is the director of the fifth episode of the season.^[5]
As of December 9, 2021, Dynasty S5 has completed production of four episodes and the production of the fifth episode is ongoing.
On December 9, 2021, Giovanni Gopradi (Roberto Flores) revealed that he would be returning in a bigger capacity.^[6]
On December 15, 2021, Costume Designer Arin posted a picture on her official Instagram Story which leaked that they're shooting a stunt between Fallon and a new character, Winston. This officially confirms that Fallon Carrington is alive. The story was deleted and reposted with Arin blurring out the Fallon part.
Michael Michele confirmed that December 17 is her final day of shooting before the production went into a Christmas break.
The production returned on January 5, 2022 after their Christmas Break.
On January 19, 2022, Josh Reims in a TVLine interview, revealed that the 100th episode of the show would have a wedding.
On January 28, 2022, Pej Vahdat was cast as Dex.
- Deadline describes Dex as A suave, handsome, charming hedge fund manager, Dex has a chance encounter with Alexis (Elaine Hendrix) which will change her life in more ways than one. ^[7]
On March 31, 2022, Cynthia Quiles revealed on her official Instagram account that she will be playing the role of Charlie. ^[8]
Production for the season ended in August 2022.^[9]
On April 7, 2022, Maddison Brown revealed on her official Instagram account that the cast are shooting the 100th episode of the show.
On April 8, 2022, Daphne Zuniga was cast as Sonya Jackson. ^[10]
- Variety describes Sonya as a successful, sultry contemporary to Blake Carrington, Sonya shakes things up after reuniting with her old friend and reminiscing about their college days. Sonya isn’t afraid to mix business with pleasure, posing unexpected challenges for Blake and his wife, Cristal.
- Zuniga revealed that she will make her first appearance in the ninth episode of the season.
On April 12, 2022, Sharon Lawrence revealed on her official Instagram account that she would return as Laura Van Kirk.
On May 24, 2022, Charisma Carpenter was cast as Heather who will make her appearance in the seventeenth episode of the season. ^[11]
- Tvline describes Heather a former babysitter of Fallon's who makes a surprise return — and drops a huge bombshell on the Carringtons.
On July 29, 2022, Michael Michele and Maddison Brown wrap filming their last scene on the show.
- Maddison Brown's last scene seemed to be a scene in Amanda's bedroom between her and Amanda.
On July 31, 2022, Eliza Bennett was done filming her scene for the last episode.
On August 1, 2022, Daniella Alonso revealed on her Instagram story it was her last day filming for the show.
- Rafael De la Fuente also posted this day an Instagram story revealing Robert Christopher Riley was filming his last scene on Dynasty.
  - His last seen takes place at the Oasis in La Mirage with Rafael de la Fuente.
Rafael De la Fuente filmed is last scene as Sammy Jo on August 2, 2022.
Adam Huber's girlfriend confirmed that he has wrapped the series as well.
On August 2, 2022, Michael Michele accidentally posted a Season 5 poster which had James Mackay's signature on it. The Instagram Story has since been deleted but this basically confirms the return of Steven after 3 seasons.
On August 2, 2022, a crew member leaked a video of Liz Gillies' wrap speech which had James Mackay in the background confirming him to be in the series finale atleast.
During an Instagram live, Rafael De la Fuente confirmed August 3, 2022 was the last day of principal photography, with only two actors having not wrap their last scenes yet.
Characters played by Elizabeth Gillies, Daniella Alonso, Rafael de la Fuente, Robert Christopher Riley, Adam Huber and Grant Show appear in all the episodes of the season.
This is the only season to feature Eliza Bennett as a series regular.

The Season 5 renewal was announced before Season 4's airing, as part of The CW's admitted attempts to keep their current slate.
The second episode of the double episode season premiere That Holiday Spirit, is the show's third Christmas episode.
With the show's cancellation, This is the last season to feature Liz Gillies, Daniella Alonso, Elaine Hendrix, Rafael de la Fuente, Sam Underwood, Michael Michele, Robert Christopher Riley, Sam Adegoke, Maddison Brown, Adam Huber, and Grant Show as series regulars and the only season to feature Eliza Bennett as a series regular.
Daniella Alonso plays two characters this season. She continues her role as Cristal Carrington while also acting as Rita, Cristal's doppelgänger. This serves as a recreation of a storyline from the 1980s Dynasty in which Linda Evans plays two roles for a majority of the sixth season.
Fallon and Liam trying to have a baby could be a reference to LB and Lauren Colby. Fallon and Jeff's children in the original 1980's series.
- Fallon and Liam having a child through surrogacy can also be a reference to Adam and his wife Dana Warring having a child through surrogacy.
When asked about what would have happened in a sixth season of Dynasty, showrunner Josh Reims said the following:

"We would have seen more of the same, and that was why we ended the finale as we did, with everybody back to bickering and fighting for power. We wanted to show that the more things change, the more the stay the same. Although they’re all in better places, deep down, they’re still the same people who want to be conniving and backstabbing and scheming."^[12]
