Everybody Wants to Rule the World is a song performed by Blake Carrington and Adam Carrington, as hallucinated by Fallon Carrington while suffering from exposure to a gas leak in her room. It was originally written for and performed by the English pop rock band Tears for Fears in 1985.

The musical number takes place in the Carrington Manor living room after a fight between Fallon and Adam, and generally underscores the power struggle over the Blue Belt Winery. The song is sung by Blake and played on the piano by Adam in the first verse, but is sung in unison in the second verse, accompanied by background music from an unseen source.

Upon the performance's end, Fallon is taken aback at their sporadic musical number and interjects that they were pitchy on the second verse. However, neither of them know what she is referring to, and Blake asks her if she is feeling okay, at which point Fallon realizes that the performance was a hallucination.[1]

  • This is the first of four songs to be sung in "Something Desperate."
  • This song is featured in the first official musical episode of the series.
  • The original version of the song was used in the season one episode, "Company Slut."
  • After its performance, the song is heard several times throughout the third season as background music.

Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find You acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on mother nature

Everybody wants to rule the world

It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever

Everybody wants to rule the world

Blake and Adam:
There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I'll be right behind you
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world
