This page is dedicated to the numerous continuity errors and retcons made throughout The CW's Dynasty.
Season 1[]
"I Hardly Recognized You"[]
- Due to the pilot being shot elsewhere, the sets for the Carrington Manor change drastically after the first episode. Most notably, the long staircase outside of the manor is removed for future episodes.
- Cristal celebrates her engagement with two friends, who later feature in her wedding. These seemingly close friends of Cristal are never seen or referenced again after the pilot.
Season 2[]
"Twenty-Three Skidoo"[]
- In the "Previously on Dynasty" segment, Kirby's introduction is re-done with Maddison Brown providing the voiceover. Additionally, Kirby is never shown to smoke cigarettes after this scene. ("Dead Scratch")
"Queen of Cups"[]
- Alexis meets with a psychic who reveals that she is going to marry a man, but he will expire. This is inspired by a similar storyline from the 1980s Dynasty, but the prophecy never plays out as Alexis remarries two additional times: first to Jeff Colby, which ends in divorce ("The Sensational Blake Carrington Trial", "Vows Are Still Sacred"), and then to Dex Dexter, who is nearly lost in a plane crash but ultimately rescued. ("Vicious Vendetta", "Catch 22")
"New Lady in Town"[]
- Dominique makes a call to an unknown person and asks about the "kids." This conversation sets up Dominique's secret family in New York, but it is never revealed who Dominique is on the phone with.
- Additionally, the only secret family member introduced is Dominique's stepdaughter, Vanessa, who Dominique raised alone after Vanessa's father exited their lives. No additional children are mentioned. ("Mother? I'm at La Mirage", "A Used Up Memory")
"Thicker Than Money"[]
- It is unclear for how long Dominique knew the truth about her paternity. It is revealed that Blake has been sending monthly checks to Dominique for years to keep quiet about the truth of the Colbys connection to the Carringtons, but it's stated prior to this episode and after this episode that Lo Cox told Dominique the truth toward the end of the first season. ("Trashy Little Tramp", "That Unfortunate Dinner")
Season 3[]
"Guilt Trip to Alaska"[]
- Daniella Alonso has taken over the role of Cristal Jennings, but the series does not provide an in-canon explanation. However, multiple jokes and references are made about the recast.
- Sam tells Kirby that he has a fear of fish, but when planning his party to celebrate his divorce, he expresses interest in an "under the sea" theme, even questioning if the living room of the manor could be turned into an aquarium. ("Life Is a Masquerade Party")
- Dominique sends reporter, Doug, to investigate the Flores family for "dirty dealings." There is no reference to this storyline beyond this episode, and it's unclear if Doug's investigation ever led to Dominique discovering information to use against Cristal.
"What Sorrows Are You Drowning?"[]
- The footage of Cristal's miscarriage from being thrown from and dragged by her horse is re-shot as a flashback, with Daniella Alonso in the role of Cristal, replacing Ana Brenda Contreras. ("Even Worms Can Procreate")
"That Wicked Stepmother"[]
- At Fallon and Liam's engagement party, Liam is presented as "Liam Van Kirk". This is proven false many instances before and after this episode, as Liam's full name is established as "Jack Liam Ridley Lowden", with Van Kirk being his mother's surname.
"My Hangover's Arrived"[]
- The Moldavians are shown to be in Atlanta and as a looming threat against Blake, but due to the third season being cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Moldavian storyline is dropped when the show resumes for its fourth season.
Season 4[]
"That Unfortunate Dinner"[]
- Lo mentions to Dominique that she loved Thomas Carrington. From this episode onward, Thomas' relationship with Lo is presented in a positive light, and Dominique is confused by her biological father's mistreatment of her. This contradicts the way in which Thomas is presented during the first season, with Lo addressing that their relationship predated the #MeToo movement, as well as the ongoing characterization of Thomas as a bigot. ("Trashy Little Tramp", "Your Sick and Self-Serving Vendetta", "Ben")
"The Aftermath"[]
- Kirby says that she was sent to live with her mother in Australia at age 10, but it's mentioned in the second season that she was exiled from Carrington Manor at age 12. ("Ship of Vipers", "The Butler Did It")
Season 5[]
"A Little Fun Wouldn't Hurt"[]
- When Sam worries about burning out from work by the time he is 32, Kirby questions having thought Sam was already 32. This contradicts Sam's Affidavit of Support from the Department of Homeland Security in which it states that he was born on July 16, 1994, indicating that he is only 28 in 2022. ("Don't Con a Con Artist")
"Devoting All Of Her Energy to Hate"[]
- When Fallon discovers Rita trying on Celia Machado's engagement ring, she questions why they didn't bury her with the ring. However, it was previously established that Celia was cremated. ("Twenty-Three Skidoo")
- Rita hits Cristal with the can of gasoline and it is shown to fly out of her hand. However, the next shot of Rita running to escape shows the can of gasoline to still be in her hand.
"The Only Thing That Counts Is Winning"[]
- Patricia de Vilbis makes a bet with Fallon, wanting ownership of Femperial Publishing. Prior to this episode, there was no indication that Fallon owned Femperial as Kirby previously sold the company to wire the money to Synergy Horizons. ("What Sorrows Are You Drowning?")
"There's No One Around to Watch You Drown"[]
- Blake's mother is said to be named Evelyn Carrington. However, she was referred to as "Ellen" (like her 1980s series counterpart) in the first season. ("Guilt is for Insecure People")
- Writer Liz Sczudlo revealed in a tweet that the name change occurred due to the head of Fallon's board also being named Ellen, and wanting to avoid confusion.
- Alexis is featured in flashbacks to Thanksgiving in the year 2000, but she is shown to be portrayed by Elaine Hendrix. This contradicts the events of the second half of the second season and the first half of the third season in which Alexis, originally portrayed by Nicollette Sheridan, receives facial reconstruction surgery after her face is burned off from being held down in a fireplace. ("Motherly Overprotectiveness")
- Alexis tells the courtroom that she and Blake were married for 18 years, but previous statements claim that they were married for 20 years. ("Dead Scratch")
"A Writer of Dubious Talent"[]
- Adam references the fact that Stacey is pregnant with his nephew. However, it's revealed later in the season that Stacey is pregnant with a girl, and that Fallon and Liam were planning to remain unaware of the child's sex until birth. ("More Power to Her")
"But a Drug Scandal?"[]
- When Adam is arrested by DEA agents, the shot clearly shows that Adam is not actually handcuffed and simply holds the cuffs while taken into custody.
"First Kidnapping and Now Theft"[]
- Alexis reveals to Fallon, seemingly for the first time, that Blake bribed a judge to grant him sole custody of Fallon and Steven when they divorced. This, however, was first revealed to Fallon when Alexis originally returned to Atlanta after eleven years. ("Enter Alexis", "The Sight of You")
